I am the parent of a child who was sexually abused at 16 by the youth pastor and his brother. We went to another lawyer first ... and they had no idea of what to do and even told us we should not take on the church! I did some research and found Tahira ... right away she made us feel safe. She knew what to do and got it done. She and her team are smart, caring, and prepared us for each step along the way!! Don't just go to a lawyer ... Go to the Best Lawyer for sexual abuse!!
Tahira and her team were consummate professionals and helped several clients come to terms with what has been a devastating ordeal. I was first abused at a very young age.
When I was sexually abused by my parish priest I lost my faith for countless years trying to put back my life which had been taken from me.

As parents we were in a free-fall of disbelief, anger, confusion, despair. We felt we had been abused, as well. Ms. Merritt and her staff were wonderful – our safety net in the most turbulent time of our lives. We would not have made it through this storm with our sanity intact without them. They are competent, experienced, hard working, thorough, supportive. We now consider them our friends. I asked Ms. Merritt how she could continue to do this work, time and time again, and her reply was ‘If this had happened to my child I would want someone like me to be there for him. Abused at age 9.
You helped me write the end to a tough chapter in my life. For the first time in my life, I feel that my childhood is in a context that is manageable. Words can’t explain the weight that has been lifted from me. Abused at age 5.

Tahira handled my child abuse case and did an excellent job. The abuse had taken place over 20 years prior. She is a caring attorney who will not allow you to be re-victimized. Thank you Tahira, for what you did for me and continue to do for others. Abused at age 15.
Tahira supported me through the entire process. I felt like a person and not just a client. She was very understanding and great at explaining the process and describing what to expect. Tahira was ten times the counselor I expected and helped me get a settlement more than twice what I thought I was going to receive. Abused at age 13.

The Tahira Khan Merritt law firm was great; they hopped on my case and had great communication. If you are looking for a great sexual abuse law firm, pick this one. It took one call to the firm and that’s all. I would recommend anyone to this place if you want closure from your past… you will get it; I sure did. There’s not only just one lawyer working on the case, there are many and they are so friendly. Abused from age 8 to age 16.
Tahira Merritt had the utmost professionalism in dealing with my case. I had a secret for 25 years and decided it was time to face my Goliath, past sexual abuse by a Catholic Priest. This sin is toxic and had permeated all my relationships and caused severe health problems. After doing some research, Tahira’s name kept coming up.
I found her level of professionalism and capacity to identify with abuse survivors to be key to my continued recovery to this day. She has had significant experience in helping abuse survivors like me navigate the process – not a trivial matter as the system isn’t much in our favor. Additionally, she is skilled in navigating the tactics of the diocese of Dallas (and other dioceses for that matter) and the Catholic Church, whose actions further victimize a survivor during this process. Make no mistake, no one should do this on their own or confront abusers by themselves. Contrary to what is said in the papers and on TV about how the church ‘hurts for victims of abuse’, they use every tactic to further demean abuse victims. You need someone who knows what they will do and anticipate their next move.
I would highly recommend Tahira as counsel to anyone that is in need of help with a sexual abuse case. Abused at age 15.
